FARIKEDE (The Plateau)
Welcome to Farikede - which is the Dhivehi word for “tip of the reef”, but you’ll probably also hear it called “The Plateau” thanks to its sweeping, elongated reef that stretches out south of the island like an underwater landing strip.
This site is our most challenging, but ask anyone who’s dived it: Farikede is pure magic for those willing to take it on. The reef itself acts as a massive cleaning station, drawing in a wild line-up of ocean giants. Here, the rules are simple: anything can happen, and often does - oceanic mantas, threshers, tiger sharks, sailfish, silvertips, grey reef sharks, hammerheads, and even whale sharks have all made an appearance. Sometimes even in one dive. Other days, it’s just you, your dive buddies and endless blue.
This is a dive for experienced divers - depth and current are a given out here and it’s not uncommon to experience what we call “washing machines”: swirling, unpredictable currents that can shift direction without warning, sometimes spinning you around or or create sudden up- and down-currents.
Depending on the conditions, we do two dive profiles: starting from the top of the reef and head out into the blue, or drop in from the open ocean and cruise back towards the reef. Either way, Farikede is never boring and always keeps you looking around - a true playground for every diver who lives for the unpredictable.
