About Liquid Shark Divers

A Dive Center Built by the Island

Liquid Shark Divers was established in 2025 by a team of Fuvahmulah-born dive professionals who spent years guiding for other operators before building their own dive center. LSD exists because we believe Fuvahmulah's extraordinary marine life deserves a dive center that puts conservation, safety, and local expertise first — not volume.

Our team grew up on this island. They learned to freedive before they could swim, watched the tiger sharks arrive at the harbour as children, and understand the rhythms of Fuvahmulah's currents, tides, and seasonal patterns in a way that no imported guide ever could. When you dive with LSD, you dive with people who have a generational connection to these waters.

We operate from a purpose-built dive center near Fuvahmulah's harbour, minutes from Tiger Harbour and the southern pelagic sites. Our fleet of traditional dhoni boats is maintained daily, and our equipment is serviced on a strict rotation. We keep groups small — a maximum 1:3 guide-to-diver ratio — because we believe that fewer divers in the water means better encounters for everyone, including the sharks.

The Team

Born & Raised on Fuvahmulah

Our People

The Team Behind Every Dive

Every member of the LSD team is from Fuvahmulah. Our dive guides have grown up around tiger sharks, know the harbour currents by instinct, and carry thousands of logged dives at the island's sites. This is not seasonal work for us — it is our home.

Our guides are trained in shark behaviour, emergency response, and underwater photography support. Before every dive, you receive a detailed briefing tailored to your experience level. After every dive, our team debriefs with you, helps identify the sharks you encountered, and adjusts the next day's plan based on conditions.

Conservation-First Diving

Safety & Ethics

Our protocols protect divers and sharks equally. Every decision we make is filtered through one question: is this good for the long-term health of the site?

Strict Safety Protocol

Every dive starts with a thorough land briefing. Safety divers accompany every group. Emergency oxygen and first aid on every boat. We never compromise procedure.

1:3 Guide Ratio

We cap every dive group at three divers per guide. This keeps encounters calm, ensures individual attention, and minimises disturbance to wildlife.

No-Feed, No-Chum Policy

We never hand-feed sharks, never deploy chum clouds, and never use cages. The tiger sharks come naturally. Our role is to observe, not manipulate.

Shark ID Database

We log every shark encounter and maintain a database of 300+ individually identified tiger sharks. This data supports long-term population monitoring.

Island-Level Coordination

Tiger Harbour dive slots are shared among all Fuvahmulah dive centers through a daily rotation system. This prevents overcrowding and keeps the site sustainable.

Community Partnership

We work alongside Fuvahmulah's fishing community — the people who created the tiger shark phenomenon — to ensure tourism and tradition coexist.

Dive Center FAQ

Common Questions

What certifications does Liquid Shark Divers hold?

+
Liquid Shark Divers is a fully licensed dive center operating under Maldivian regulations. Our guides hold internationally recognised certifications and have thousands of logged dives specifically at Fuvahmulah's sites. We specialise in pelagic shark encounters and underwater photography guidance.

What is the guide-to-diver ratio at your Fuvahmulah dive center?

+
We maintain a strict 1:3 guide-to-diver ratio on every dive, including tiger shark dives at Tiger Harbour. This is among the lowest ratios in the Maldives dive industry. Smaller groups mean safer dives, less disturbance to wildlife, and a more personalised experience for every guest.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

+
Full equipment rental is available at our dive center. We maintain well-serviced regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, and dive computers. If you prefer your own gear, we recommend bringing your mask, computer, and wetsuit at minimum. Tanks and weights are always provided.

What makes Liquid Shark Divers different from other dive centers in Fuvahmulah?

+
Three things set us apart. First, our team is locally born and raised — they grew up on this island, know its waters intimately, and have personal relationships with the fishing community that underpins the tiger shark ecosystem. Second, we prioritise conservation and ethical practices over volume, capping group sizes and following strict no-feed, no-chum protocols. Third, our photography program is built into every package, not an afterthought.

Can beginners dive with Liquid Shark Divers?

+
The Tiger Harbour shark dive at 6-8 metres is accessible to any certified diver, including recently qualified Open Water divers. For Fuvahmulah's deeper pelagic sites (thresher sharks, hammerheads), we recommend Advanced Open Water certification. If you're not yet certified, contact us — we can arrange courses before your trip or refer you to a local training partner.
