About This Site

Kudhu Falhagando Dive Site

Kudhu Falhagando extends along the east reef's southern stretch, where deep-water cleaning stations attract pelagic species that cruise past the reef lip. The site is characterised by a series of cleaning stations at various depths, each drawing different species.

Oceanic mantas are the headline act here — the cleaning stations at 15–25m are regularly visited by giant mantas (Mobula birostris) with wingspans of 5–7 metres. The site also produces regular tiger shark sightings as animals from the nearby Tiger Harbour population patrol the broader reef system.

The eastern exposure means this site catches the northeast monsoon current during dry season, bringing clear water and concentrating plankton that feeds the cleaning station ecosystem. It's one of Fuvahmulah's most productive multi-species sites.

Best Conditions

March–May for manta mating season. Year-round for cleaning station encounters. Best visibility December–April with northeast current bringing clean water.

What You'll See

Marine Life at Kudhu Falhagando

Oceanic Mantas

Giant oceanic mantas (5–7m wingspan) visit cleaning stations at 15–25m. They slow to near-stall speed during cleaning — the best photo opportunities.

Silvertip Sharks

Patrol the deeper reef edge (25–30m). Bold and curious, they often approach within 5m of stationary divers.

Tiger Sharks

Part of the broader Tiger Harbour population. Individuals cruise past the reef spur on hunting circuits. Sightings are common but not guaranteed like at Tiger Harbour itself.

Diver Tips

How to Dive Kudhu Falhagando

Fuvahmulah's premier manta cleaning station site. The combination of oceanic mantas, silvertip sharks, and passing tiger sharks makes this one of the most species-diverse dives on the island.

Drift along the spur and pause at each cleaning station. Settle on the reef and wait — mantas return to the same stations repeatedly
Don't approach cleaning mantas. Stay below or at eye level and let them orbit above you
Tiger shark sightings here are bonus encounters — they appear from the blue without warning
The deeper cleaning stations (25m+) attract silvertips. Budget air time for both shallow manta stations and deep reef edge
Safety & Conditions

Before You Dive

Advanced Open Water required
Current can push you off the spur into open water — maintain reef contact
Mantas have right of way at cleaning stations. Never block their approach path
Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Is this the best site for manta rays?

+
Yes — Kudhu Falhagando has the most active manta cleaning stations on the east coast. March–May (mating season) is peak, but feeding encounters happen year-round.

Will I see tiger sharks here?
