About This Site

Aruffanno Dive Site

Aruffanno sits on the northwest coast where another of Fuvahmulah's hand-cut channels sculpts the reef. The channel creates a mix of hard and soft corals that teem with reef life, while the northwest exposure catches current that brings thresher sharks ghosting in from the deep blue.

The site is notable for its soft coral gardens — gorgonians and sea fans that thrive in the current-swept channel walls. This soft coral cover distinguishes Aruffanno from the hard-coral-dominated sites on the south and east coasts, adding colour and texture that photographers appreciate.

The northwest position means this site catches morning light beautifully, with sun rays penetrating the channel and illuminating the soft corals. Combined with the chance of thresher sharks in the background, it's one of the most photogenic sites on the island.

Best Conditions

May–October when the northwest coast is sheltered by the southwest monsoon. Morning light is best for photography of the soft coral gardens.
