About This Site

Hudhekede Dive Site

Hudhekede (W) takes its name from a distinctive W-shaped sandy plateau at the northeast corner, parallel to Fuvahmulah's historic lighthouse. The site features mixed coral blocks on sand, creating a patchwork reef environment that supports diverse reef life and occasional macro finds.

This is one of Fuvahmulah's more relaxed dive sites — the reef structure is less dramatic than the deep southern walls, but the biodiversity in the coral blocks makes up for it. Soft corals, hard coral patches, and sandy channels create varied habitat that supports everything from nudibranchs to schooling reef fish.

The W-shaped plateau is a natural navigation aid. Each 'arm' of the W has slightly different character — one side catches more current and hosts more active fish life, the other is sheltered and better for slow reef exploration. A good guide will read conditions and choose the best arm for the day.

Best Conditions

Year-round — sheltered position makes this accessible in most conditions. Best visibility December–April. Good option when other sites are blown out by weather.

What You'll See

Marine Life at Hudhekede

Reef Fish

High diversity of reef species across the coral blocks — butterflyfish, angelfish, anthias, damselfish. The patchy habitat supports more species variety than uniform reef.

Soft Corals

Gorgonians and soft coral clusters on the current-exposed coral blocks. Healthy and colourful.

Macro Life

Nudibranchs, flatworms, shrimp, and small crabs in the coral block crevices. Bring a keen eye and a torch.

Diver Tips

How to Dive Hudhekede

Fuvahmulah's best site for reef diversity and macro hunting. If you've been doing deep pelagic dives and want a gentle, exploratory dive with long bottom time and diverse small life, Hudhekede is the answer.

Choose an arm of the W based on current — the sheltered arm for macro, the exposed arm for fish action
The sandy channels between coral blocks often hide stingrays and flatfish — worth checking
This is a great site for underwater photography practice — varied subjects at comfortable depth
Longer bottom times possible here — use the extra time to explore slowly rather than covering distance
